Online prohibited

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 bans online money games, including online casino, betting and poker, along with their advertising and payment processing. The Act and its Rules took effect on 1 May 2026, when the Online Gaming Authority of India began work under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Lotteries and land-based casinos remain state matters: some states run lotteries, and Goa, Sikkim and Daman license casinos.
