The Alderney Gambling Control

The AGCC, or the Alderney Gambling Control Commission was created in May of 2000. The Commission consists of three members, and the Chairman, is non-political, independent, and responsible for the regulation of eGambling under the States of Alderney. The supervisory, and regulatory approach of the Commission meets very high international standards. The British Channel Islands are not a part of the United Kingdom, although they are dependent on the Crown, and self-governing. Recognition as the leading offshore finance centers of the world has been given to the Channel Islands. They have become established as an excellent center of e-commerce.

The third largest island regulated by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission is Alderney, it is located sixty miles from Britain’s mainland, roughly eight miles from France, and is a constitutive island under the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Alderney has its own company laws, legislature, and government. Alderney is regulated by the taxation laws of the provisions of Guernsey.

We issue licences only in respect of “remote gambling” – gambling using a remote link, usually over the internet. So, if you effect gambling transactions remotely from a server or servers based in Alderney or Guernsey, you must hold a licence from the AGCC and you must locate your gaming servers in a hosting centre approved by AGCC.

The Alderney Gambling Control Commission was created with a mission to ensure the fairness, and maintain the integrity of Alderley’s online gambling business. All online gambling must meet the high standards of the industry, and be based on honesty. This includes pay offs, funding, and performed processes.

The primary objective is to protect and enhance the reputation of Alderney as a first tier regulatory jurisdiction by seeking to ensure that:

  • All electronic gambling is conducted honestly and fairly and in compliance with good governance;
  • The funding, management and operation of electronic gambling remains free from criminal influence; and
  • Electronic gambling is regulated and monitored so as to protect the interests of the young and the vulnerable
    and without compromising this primary objective, to work with other agencies in the development of eGambling activities regulated by the Commission.
