Jake Dovey on Scaling PayModum Beyond Payment Access
Jake Dovey, Founder & CEO of PayModum, leads a global payment gateway supporting iGaming operators with access to more than 150 payment methods across multiple markets. As payment preferences become increasingly localised and operators focus more closely on conversion, acceptance rates and market-specific performance, PayModum is moving beyond payment access alone to help businesses build and optimise payment strategies around the markets they serve.
In this CasinoRank interview, Dovey discusses PayModum’s evolution, its approach to payment optimisation and the operational work behind its recent PCI DSS Level 1 certification. He also reflects on the company’s shortlist for Payment Solution of the Year at the SBC Awards 2026, what PayModum is bringing to SBC Summit Lisbon, and its next phase of growth, including further expansion of its payment capabilities in the US.
PayModum has evolved significantly since its early days and now operates across global markets. What has changed most in the company’s role in the payments ecosystem as the business has grown?
Jake Dovey: I think one of the biggest changes has been that our role has moved from helping merchants access payment solutions to helping them make sense of an increasingly complex payments environment. As businesses expand, they are dealing with more markets, more providers, different local payment preferences and greater expectations around performance. Simply connecting another payment method doesn’t necessarily solve that problem.
What has changed for us is the depth and maturing of the relationship. We spend much more time understanding where a merchant wants to grow, how their customers prefer to pay, where they are seeing friction or lost conversion, and then helping them build a setup that can evolve with the business.
The technology supports that, but the real value is in making the payment strategy simpler and more effective as the merchant scales.

PayModum now offers access to 150+ payment methods, but more choice can also mean more complexity. How do you determine which methods will genuinely improve the player payment experience and conversion in each market?
Jake Dovey: Having access to 150+ payment methods gives us the flexibility to support very different payment behaviors. What players expect in one market can be very different from another, so we look at local preferences, familiarity, ease of use and how each method performs.
We also look at the wider payment journey, where an operator is seeing friction, approval and decline performance, the markets they want to grow into and the compliance requirements around those markets. Also, the process doesn’t stop when a method goes live as performance needs to be constantly monitored and the setup refined over time as player behaviour and market conditions change.
With PayModum set to join the industry at SBC Summit Lisbon, what can readers expect from the company on the ground? Are there any conversations, partnerships, or developments you’re particularly focused on that you can preview ahead of the event?
Jake Dovey: SBC Lisbon is always a very important opportunity for us to spend proper time with operators, partners and the wider industry.
It is also an important moment for us from a brand perspective. We have invested a lot in elevating how PayModum presents itself, from the website and visual identity through to the way we communicate our proposition and brand values, and Lisbon gives us the opportunity to bring that together in one place. The business has evolved significantly, and we want the brand to reflect that maturity and ambition.
You recently achieved PCI DSS certification. What was the biggest operational challenge in getting there, and what did the process improve internally?
Jake Dovey: PCI DSS Level 1 is a rigorous certification process that requires the highest operational and compliance standards and is the highest overall PCI DSS certification level. In order to ensure the highest levels of certification standards, we hired a new compliance analyst to help us re-document the entire operational (internal) and external processes to ensure we were keeping ourselves in line with not just the standard, but also ensuring practical workflows when handling customer card data externally with our relevant partners and merchants. This went hand in hand with the relevant back-end environment changes and operational changes needed to recertify under the ever-evolving PCI DSS standards.
PayModum is also shortlisted for Payment Solution of the Year. What do you think the nomination says about where the company is today?
Jake Dovey: For us, the nomination is a strong indication of how far PayModum has come. We are operating in a very competitive payments market, so being shortlisted is meaningful because it reflects the progress we have made not only in technology, but in the overall way we support merchants and solve increasingly complex payment challenges.
I also think it says something about the maturity of the business today. We have spent a lot of time strengthening the product, expanding our payment capabilities, building the right team and becoming much clearer about the value we want to bring to operators. There is still a great deal we want to achieve so I see this as a really positive recognition of the direction we are moving in and, most importantly, of the work the wider PayModum team has put into getting us here.
Beyond what you can share at Lisbon, can you tease anything PayModum is working on — and, more importantly, what problem is it designed to solve?
Jake Dovey: “PayModum is working closely with our US partners to deliver ACH deposits and RTP withdrawals to expand our overall North American coverage in a fast-growing regulated market”
