IGT’s Strategic Shift to Lottery Focus
International Game Technology (IGT) has announced the immediate rebranding of its global lottery business to Brightstar Lottery. This move comes as the company prepares to finalize the sale of its gaming and digital divisions to private equity firm Apollo Global, expected to conclude in Q3 of this year.
Brightstar Lottery will continue to provide the same services as the existing IGT lottery business, maintaining partnerships with 90 lottery customers across six continents. The company’s role encompasses lottery operations, retail and digital systems, technology provision, instant ticket services, and game creation.
Brightstar’s Market Position
Brightstar holds a significant position in the lottery sector, serving as the primary technology provider for 26 of the 46 lottery jurisdictions in the United States and seven of the world’s largest lotteries. This extensive reach underscores the company’s importance in the global lottery landscape.
Vince Sadusky, CEO of Brightstar, commented on the rebranding: “We have a nearly 50-year history of reliability, innovation and leadership in lottery, a bedrock from which we are launching Brightstar with a future-forward mindset of helping lottery customers around the world succeed in an environment of digital adoption, shifting player expectations and an increasing variety of gaming choices.”
Future Outlook for Brightstar
The rebranding to Brightstar aligns with IGT’s strategic focus on the lottery sector. Marco Sala, Brightstar Executive Chair, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and responsible growth in the lottery business.
“Brightstar will be well-positioned to focus on driving innovation and growing the potential of the lottery business responsibly for the entertainment of players, the success of our customers and the support of the good causes they fund in their communities,” Sala stated.
As the lottery industry continues to evolve, Brightstar’s established presence and technological capabilities position it to adapt to changing player expectations and the increasing variety of gaming options available in the market.
